My language trip to Malta

Verfasst von Carina am 12 09 2024

My name is Carina, I’m 16 years old and from Cologne in Germany. I spent a one-week language study trip with a host family in Malta. Together with a friend, I travelled to Malta by plane on a Sunday morning. At the airport in Malta, we were given a sheet at the ESE counter with information about our host family and our language level. From there we were driven to our host families with a few other students. When we arrived at our host family, we were given a very warm welcome and told everything we needed to know about our first day at school and the local area.

Beach closely to the family

There was a beach quite close to our host family (15 minutes away) and we could go there at any time outside school hours. There was also our pick-up point from where we were picked up in the morning and taken to activities. The language lessons I booked were very relaxed and offered a good balance between learning and fun. As my friend and I had different language levels, we were in different language courses, which I personally didn't find bad at all.

Good mixture between learning and having fun

We were able to be together in our free time as well as in the breaks between lessons, while in class we were able to talk more with others and get to know new people. The lesson times were also very pleasant. Lessons ran from 10:00-13:30, including the break, so you didn't have to get up so early and still had enough time for fun activities in the afternoon. Every day you had the option of either taking part in the activities offered by the school or doing something on your own if you weren't interested in the activity.

Variety of activities after lessons

There are different activities every day for 2 weeks until the program repeats itself. I really liked the choice of activities. On the first day there was a big opening party for students from several language schools. They had good music, and the atmosphere was quite nice. Other activities included a beach day at Ghadira Bay, an evening trip to Valetta, a trip to an Aquafunpark, a boat trip to a beach in Gozo and lots of other cool activities. My favourite part was the boat trip to Gozo and Ghadira Bay. When we didn’t do any activities, we were going to the beach with a few friends, explored the area, or went shopping in the small mall nearby.

Meet students from other countries and make new friends

In our host family we had a Whatsapp group in which we could write when we wanted to have dinner or tell them if we didn't want to eat at home. The food was very varied and there was always something different. What I liked best about the trip was that the students came from many different countries, which gave us new impressions. Overall, I can highly recommend the language study trip to Malta. I made a lot of memories and had a great week. I would book it again.
